Album Covers of Bands That Don't Exist
c.2012~2013
This was one of my favorite projects during my college days. I got the inspiration from a really old friend who had a Photoshop class where they created CD covers using randomly generated prompts. I absolutely loved this project. I never took the class myself, but because it was so simple to recreate I had this in my rotation of design projects whenever I was in an art block or between other projects.
The steps are really simple:
Find a Copyright-free photo from the Flicker Commons
On Wikipedia, use the Random Article button to find your band name
Use the first quote from Random Quotes to generate an album title
I would do these in any order I felt like at the time. I also took some liberties for step 3, especially when the quotes were too long. In those times, I’d use whatever stood out to me based on the band name. Sometimes getting the band name helped me gravitate towards certain pictures or quotes. Other times the photo would inspire me and I’d work around that. It’s honestly whatever you’d like! It’s so versatile and really only limited to your imagination. I think that’s why I loved doing these so much. This project is so awesome for working out those creative muscles. Especially in trying to push yourself out of your comfort zone.
As I’m writing this, I’m considering getting back into it…
