Sakamichi no Apollon Episode CD Covers
This was a personal project of mine from back in 2012 originally posted on my old Tumblr art account.
The designs were based on episode titles of the anime series Sakamichi no Apollon (Kids on the Slope). Each piece also has a still from their respective episodes. The main goal of the project was to capture a defining emotion from each episode with imagery and song. Obviously this was subjective, biased by my understanding and interpretation of each song and its relation to a corresponding episode. Even if you’re not familiar with the show, I hope you give these songs a listen. I took a lot of inspiration from a variety of album covers from the artists’ discographies (many being from the incredible jazz label Blue Note).
Many of my college projects were self-started/self-directed; I loved designing so much that I was always busy working on something, even if it was just to try out different design techniques or play with a font. Looking back on it, I really valued those times I had. It really fueled my passion in my career as a professional designer. Without that period of my life, I’m not quite sure how things would’ve turned out. I took a lot of inspiration in designing for music, thinking one day it would lead me to a career in the music industry. I have a lot of personal projects that involve music that I’m looking forward to sharing, so I hope that’s something you’ll find interesting in the future!
